GREEN ROOFS

Green roofs come in many shapes and sizes, from a sedum-covered system to a high-traffic, amenity deck with soil deep enough for trees. When well-designed and maintained, these systems give people a connection to nature that they might not otherwise have in a highly-built “grayscape” environment. Additionally, green roofs have many other ancillary benefits, including energy savings, increased lifespan of a roof, mitigation of air and water pollutants, and slowing stormwater peak flows.

I have designed and overseen construction of several green roof systems used on public and private structures. These systems have incorporated design elements as various as outdoor kitchens and firepits, dog parks, large tree plantings, vast areas of sedum, paved residential terraces, community gardens, and even zen gardens.
